Info on Becoming An Ex-Pat in El Salvador

Here is the Lonely Planet online guide to travel in El Salvador.

Here is the State Department page of regulations and warnings about travel to El Salvador.

This is a small topographical map of El Salvador, you can see that after a low-lying coastal area the altitude increases to mountainous areas throughout.

I'm sorry I couldn't find a larger regional map, but this one shows you the breakdown of the 15 regions of El Salvador. You can see that it is bordered by Guatemala to the west and Honduras to the north and east.

A great ex-pat blog I follow is called What's Up El Salvador. Other blogs can be found  HERE.

El Salvador has one international airport, in San Salvador, airport code SAL.

Although the "worst gang in the world," MS or Mara Salvatrucha, began with El Salvadorean immigrants to Los Angeles, much of the heinous barbarity was imported back to El Salvador from US prisons. (TIME magazine article) This Central American Forum seems to be informative.

If you want to be a part of El Salvador, but can't go, or you are going soon and want to have someone there to visit, consider sponsoring a child through World Vision.
